in 1989. Glem-Gery Corp. has announced the appointment of Jan H. Griesemer to the position of marketing specialist. The Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago held their annual golf outing at Villa Oliva Country Club, Bartlett on Friday, August 18th.

Bill Barbier, former director of the Masonry Institute of Tennessee, has joined Lone Star Construction Products as Vice President, Marketing & Sales. Don Reed has been named to manage the Hertz branch in Palm Springs, CA. The Masonry Advisory Council (III.) held two seminars on the new 530 Masonry Code on July 11 & 13 in Chicago and Aurora with Mario Catani the featured speaker.

The Construction Specification Institute (CSI) has elevated four members to Fellowship, one of two top Institute awards. They are: Jerome H. Alciatore, Kenneth E. Guthrie, Martin J. Janka and J. L. "Tex" Richardson. The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich., has awarded the school of engineering at Washington University, St. Louis, a $750,000 "challenge" grant toward construction of Jolley Hall, the school's new 52,000 sq.-ft. facility.

TARGET Change

The Target division of Federal Mogul Corp. has announced that effective on June 1. 1989 it no longer will be a division of Federal Mogul. The new name of the firm is Target Products, Inc. with the address, phone numbers, products and personnel remaining the same. Target is located at 4320 Clary Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64130.

AED Selects Mack

Jonathan T. (Toby) Mack has been selected as Executive Vice President-designate to succeed P.D. (Bud) Hermann as the next chief staff executive of Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) when Hermann retires in February 1990.

Mack will join the AED staff in Oak Brook, III., in late October and work in tandem with Hermann until February 1. AED is the international trade association of distributors and manufacturers of equipment used in construction, mining, forestry, public works, and related industries in the United States, Canada and abroad.

Currently chief staff executive for the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) based in Chicago, Mack, 45, began his association career after graduation from Pennsylvania State University and service as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He joined the staff of the Electronic Industries Association in Washington in 1971 as staff vice president for the distributor division.

New Research Facility

ginia Tech College of Architecture and Urban Studies, the university's Research Division, NCMA and individual NCMA members, and a number of other building material manufacturers across the nation.

The research facility will serve as a "living laboratory." Research is beginning with the assembly of the innovative products that will make up the building. Performance of the structure and its components will be monitored for years to come through sensors put in place during construction.

The building will be the nucleus of a Virginia Tech environmental systems lab, and will be occupied by university architects and researchers. The facility will house a wide range of design and construction research projects.

Construction is expected to be complete before the end of 1989.

New NTC Manager

Jim Schwinkendorf will replace Harold Moore as General Manager of the North Texas Contractors Association. Jim, who has been with NTCA since 1981, was selected by the Board since he has experience in all areas of the Association matters.
