CHANGES GROWTH
Mirafi Moisture Protection, A Division of Royal Ten Cate (USA), Inc., announces the appointment of Wilson Harvie as Product Manager. Harvie comes to Mirafi with more than 10 years experience in the commercial roofing and waterproofing industry. He will be responsible for Mirafi's entire product line, product testing, code approvals, quality assurance and technical product issues.
Nape appointed district sales manager for Grove Crane. SHADY GROVE, PA. David Birkhauser, Senior Vice President, Sales, Western Hemisphere, has announced the appointment of Kyle A. Nape to the position of District Sales Manager, Cranes Latin America. In his new position, Mr. Nape will be responsible for Grove Crane sales in South America, concentrating on the countries of Brazil. Argentina, Chile, Peru and the Caribbean. Mr. Nape has over 15 years of experience in the crane business, most recently with P&H.
CSR Rinker Materials acquires Zarco Supply, Kennedy Concrete. WEST PALM BEACH, FI., May 29-CSR Rinker Materials, Florida's largest supplier of building and construction materials, today announced the acquisition of two firms that will strengthen the company's product line and extend its marketing reach in the state. Zarco Supply, based in Oldsmar, Fla., Is a distributor of building materials. The company, founded in 1980, has other distribution sites in Pensacola, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, Lakeland and Hudson. Rinker also acquired Kennedy Concrete Inc., a niche specialty concrete company with plants in Orlando and Bushnell. While Rinker is the nation's largest supplier of concrete and concrete block the company has not traditionally offered services to the smaller, C.O.D. market. According to Karl Watson, Jr., general manager of Rinker's Materials Division-North, Kennedy Concrete will help the company create a strong presence in that market.
Judith Trotter Short has been named executive director of the Allied Construction Industries, Cincinnati, OH. Judy has been serving as Director of Public Affairs for the AGC in Washington, D. C. since 1990. She is past National President of NAWIC and the Construction Writers Association. She begans her new duties on July 15.
Robert D. Thomas and Matthew J. Scolforo Receive Alan H. Yorkdale Award for Best Technical Paper Concerning Masonry of Clay, Shale, or Concrete. West Conshohocken, Pa.. May 21, 1996 Robert D. Thomas, director of research at the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA), Herndon, Va., and Matthew J. Scolforo, staff engineer, Brick Institute of America, have received the 1995 American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial. The award, sponsored by Committee C-15 on Manufactured Masonry Units and presented annually. recognizes the author or authors of the best paper concerning clay, shale, concrete, sandlime units or masonry, published in English between July 1. 1994 and June 30, 1995. Thomas and Scolforo received the award for their paper, "Evaluation of the Compressive Strength of Masonry by Prism Sampling," which appeared in The Masonry Society Journal. Matthew J. Scolforo is the senior structural engineer at BIA and is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He provides technical assistance to designers, builders and homeowners for the proper design and use of brick masonry. He also handles the review of BIA research programs and writes and critiques magazine articles and symposium papers on brick masonry.
