CONCRETE MASONRY WALLS
FOR METAL BUILDINGS
NCMA Produces Concrete
Masonry Manual for Metal
Buildings.
The National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) has just produced the Concrete Masonry Manual for Metal Buildings manual to assist designers, contractors and metal building manufacturers with the design and construction of masonry walls for metal buildings. The manual promotes the benefits of concrete masonry walls on metal buildings and includes design recommendations consistent with masonry design standards and industry practice. Easy-to-use design aides and information on empirical design, allowable stress design and strength design of masonry walls and lintels are provided. Key issues regarding the connections between the masonry walls and the metal building also are identified and discussed. The manual can be ordered by calling NCMA's publications department at (703) 713-1900. Order No. TR 149, $30 retail plus postage and handling.

Design Tables For
Concrete Masonry and
Precast Concrete Lintels
NCMA Publishes Lintel
Design Manual.
The National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) has just published Design Table Tables for Reinforced Concrete Masonry Linitels and Precast Concrete as an aid in the design of these structural elements. "Engineers will find this manual extremely useful when designing lintels," says NCMA President Chris Stinebert. "By having these design tables choosing an adequate section is quick and therefore, makes designing with these products easier." The manual contains chapters on material properties, loading conditions, and design methods. For concrete masonry, allowable stress per the Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 402), and strength design methods are presented. Strength design per ACI 318 is included for precast concrete. The manual includes over 50 easy-to-use design tables. Lintel design tables list moment and shear capacities as a function of masonry unit size reinforcing steel, number of reinforcing bars, bar coverage, and compressive strength. Additionally, included is an appendix showing moment and shear formulas for beams. The manual can be ordered by calling NCMA's publications department at (703) 713-1900. Order No. TR 91A, $12 retail plus postage and handling.
CSI's 1996 Edition of Manual
of Practice Released
Nonresidential architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) professionals have an additional tool available to them to help keep projects on schedule and on budget as well as address emerging construction products and trends. Now available is The Construction Specifications Institute's (CSI) 1996 edition of its Manual of Practice (MOP). The MOP is the nonresidential construction industry's bible for developing clear, correct, complete, and concise written construction documents. The 1996 changes to the MOP will provide A/E/C professionals architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and building owners and managers the latest information in helping them communicate with each other quickly, clearly and easily amid the profusion of written documents supporting non residential construction projects. Another added feature of the MOP's 1996 edition is a chapter on construction management. It describes how the new project delivery system is a means of improving construction management techniques that result in faster project delivery. The 1996 MOP's price is $160 for CSI members ($320 for nonmembers). The product is divided into four modules: the Construction Documents Fundamentals and Formats Module the Construction Specifications Practice Module, the Construction Product Representation Module and the Construction Contract Administration Module. Orders can be placed by calling CSI at (800) 689-2900 or faxing CSI at (703) 684-0465.
