Texas Brick Manufacturer Expands
Dallas-based Bilco Brick has completed phase one of a series of plant expansions designed to increase production approximately four times its present capacity. Bilco launched the expansion effort in July 1999 and at completion, the company expects to begin offering commercial brick, concrete pavers, landscape block, wall brick and additional products.
In 2001, Bilco maximized its production capacity at 55 million bricks per year. "Keeping up with customer demand and timely delivery has been the driving force behind the expansion decision," said Randy Colen, president of Bilco Brick. "When the additional production lines become operational we will begin to diversify into various concrete products as well as other markets."
A leader in the concrete industry, Bilco created the "antiquing" process and other facings, a process now widely used in the production of both concrete and clay brick by manufacturers nationwide. Bilco holds patents for equipment developed to improve industry processes and 10 percent of its staff are engineers developing and implementing new automated processes necessary to keep ahead of the competition and continue production at a price well below the competition. Bilco serves volume builders in the Southwest United States, including Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Kansas.
