MSJC Public Comment Period
The Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) has proposed revisions to the 2002 Editions of its Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (ACI 530-02/ASCE-5-02/TMS 402-02), Specification for Masonry Structures (ACI 530.1-02/ASCE6-02/TMS 602-02) and the companion commentaries. The public comment period was scheduled to open May 1" In accordance with the rules of the sponsoring organizations, proposed changes to standardized documents must be open for public comment for a period of no less than 90 days.

Proposed changes to these documents, along with the rationale for the major changes, will be posted on The Masonry Society's web site when the comment period opens and may be accessed via www.masonrystandards.org. In addition, a hard copy of the changes and the discussion may be obtained from The Masonry Society (TMS) by submitting a written request and a payment of $15 for copying and printing.

The President of the Illinois IUBAC District Council #1, Peter Marinopoulos, has resigned his position, and the former Vice President, Jim Allen, has been sworn in as President of both the IL District Council and the Bricklayers Local #21 (Chicago's Cook County). This comes while these areas are in the midst of a new agreement, and everyone involved is enthused about the prospect of a mutually beneficial agreement. Allen remained interim President until the May elections.
