OSHA recently published a new final rule requiring employers to provide personal protective equipment used to comply with OSHA's standards for all employees. Employees are responsible only for the costs of everyday clothing, footwear and safety eyewear. The new rule has an enforcement deadline of May 15, 2008, six months from the date of publication to allow employers time to change their existing PPE payment policies to accommodate the final rule.

Sandell Construction Solutions of Schenectady, N.Y., announced the acquisition of Diedrich Technologies, a supplier of professional masonry detergent products for restoring and maintaining old and new buildings. Diedrich has been in business for more than 30 years, with sales representatives nationwide. Its products are approved by state preservation officers throughout the country and have been specified and used on buildings that appear on the National Register of Historic Places. With the acquisition of Diedrich Technologies, Sandell encompasses all of the masonry market's needs, from initial construction to maintenance of the building.

HCSS, developer of construction field management, estimating and resource management software, has been recognized as a great place to work. The firm was recently named No. 6 in the medium-sized companies category of the 2008 Best Companies to Work for in Texas program. The rankings were published in a special section in the February 2008 issue of Texas Monthly. HCSS also made the list in 2006.

HCSS, along with companies from across the state, participated in a two-part process to determine the winners. The first part consisted of evaluating each company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience.

Spider, a division of SafeWorks, LLC, hired Lee Tigner as district sales representative for its Atlanta location. Tigner is responsible for solving the suspended access and safety challenges of contractors and facility owners in Georgia and parts of Tennessee and Alabama. He will focus on driving new business from both commercial and industrial customers. He has more than 10 years of experience in the building materials industry and has held a variety of sales roles in the Atlanta construction market. IMAS
