Carrier Receives Award of Merit for Contributions to ASTM Masonry Standards

Words: Dan KamysASTM International Committee C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units has honored Jerry Carrier, director of research and development at Glen-Gery Corp. in Wyomissing, Pa., with the Award of Merit. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. Committee C15 noted Carrier’s outstanding efforts in the development of ASTM standards related to manufactured masonry units of fired clay and shale, concrete and sand-lime units. Carrier, who joined ASTM in 1987, works on several C15 subcommittees and has led several task groups that have resulted in the development of important industry specifications. He has served two terms as a member at large on the C15 executive subcommittee, and a term as C15 membership secretary. The committee recognized Carrier with an Award of Appreciation in 2005. Carrier is a member of the ASTM Committees on Mortars and Grouts for Unit Masonry, Thermal Insulation, Performance of Buildings, and Sustainability in addition to C15. A graduate of the University of Virginia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in architecture, Carrier joined Glen-Gery Corp., one of the largest brick manufacturers in the U.S., as design advisor in 1989.
