INDUSTRY NEWS
The acquisition reflects the significant growth opportunities and operating synergies that the company expects to realize from its expanded footprint in the Latin American market. ESCO will become a key part of the Harsco Infrastructure group's Americas region operations, immediately expanding the group's existing Latin America presence in Mexico, Chile and Peru with seven additional countries, including Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and Puerto Rico, while increasing Harsco Infrastructure's overall global footprint to more than 40 countries.
The acquisition also gives Harsco Infrastructure a well-established platform for additional expansion throughout the Latin America market, particularly Brazil, where multi-billion dollar investments in public infrastructure, energy and tourism-related construction are anticipated. ESCO combines more than 50 years of scaffolding and formwork experience in the construction services industry with a strong leadership team. The company employs about 450 people and recorded 2008 sales of about $50 million.
Harsco Infrastructure is a newly created combination of three long-established Harsco companies: Patent in the Americas, and SGB and Hünnebeck in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
NYS Concrete Masonry Association Donates to Alfred State Masonry Program
Alfred State College student masons and instructor Stephen Richard were busy late last semester, unloading and unpacking two truckloads of paver bricks, fire bricks, fireplace and pizza oven parts, refractory mortars, blocks, bricks and cavity wall flashing components. All of these masonry materials will be used as students build mock ups of masonry wall systems, fireplaces and working pizza ovens. All of the donated masonry products are green and recyclable. When used in building projects, they add to the LEED credits, which many builders and owners strive to achieve for more efficient energy use and low maintenance over the building's life.
The materials were donated by: Southern Tier Concrete Products of Alfred; CMS Industries, Superior Clay Corp., Whitacre Greer, Brick Corp., (Alliance, Ohio); Glen Gery Brick, (Reading, Pa.); Sandell Inc., (Schenectady, N.Y.); and Hohmann & Barnard Inc., (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
