# IPAF Launches AWP Incident Database

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has begun a systematic project to collect worldwide data on fatal accidents involving aerial work platforms (AWPs), with the aim of improving the safe use of equipment. Manufacturers, rental companies, contractors and users are encouraged to report any known AWP accidents or incidents using the standard form that is available at www.ipaf.org/accident. In the initial phase, IPAF is calling for reports of any known fatalities involving AWPs worldwide.

The construction industry has one of the highest rates of fatal injuries to workers. In the US for example, it accounted for 751 fatal injuries in 2010, an injury rate of 9.5 per 100,000 workers according to Bureau of Labor statistics, Falls continue to be a leading cause of accidents. Less is known about the nature of the accidents involving falls from height and the type of equipment involved, which is one aspect that the IPAF initiative seeks to address.

# Blastcrete Names Bagwell as GM

Blastcrete Equipment Co. has named Maury Bagwell as general manager. In his new position, Bagwell's primary responsibilities are product development and engineering, management of employees and quality control. He has more than 20 years of experience in manufacturing, sales, and product design and engineering. Prior to joining Blastcrete, he was involved in both engineering and sales for Engine Power Source as an OEM sales manager.

# Nissan Forklift Launches NFCdirect.com

Nissan Forklift Corp. recently launched NFCdirect.com, a new online portal for Nissan Forklift's dealers and other partners. NFCdirect.com allows Nissan Forklift to provide more personalized content to its partners and simplifies many online processes. The system makes ordering easier by allowing users to make complete orders from their own spreadsheets by uploading an Excel file instead of individually ordering each item needed. It also offers one-click reordering, making it simple to order items that require frequent restocking. Its real-time inventory status reduces back ordering and helps dealers to stock parts more efficiently. Some features of the new system include: an all-in-one search tool, activity overviews, order status and history sum-

A process that took more than three months to complete and used more than 1,000 bricks has been completed by the juniors and seniors in the Trowel Trades program at the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County. Students did the layout and design, estimated the project cost and completed entire structure in brick veneer.
