Schiavone Construction Co. LLC, a Northeast builder of bridges, highways and tunnels, is spearheading a youth educational initiative through Adopt-A-School support and the donation of textbooks as part of promoting "big construction" thinking to youngsters.

Since September 2010, VPs Anthony Del Vescovo and Patrick Rooney of Schiavone have given time and resources to visit schools and to bring awareness to youngsters to "think big" by supplying the book "Those Amazing Engineers" (Trilogy Publications). Schiavone is a returning sponsor for the 2011-2012 school year, placing a total of 200 books in four schools, including Clarendon Elementary, Secaucus, N.J.; PS #257, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Irene E. Feldkirchner Elementary, Green Brook, N.J.; and the Brooklyn School for Global Scholars, Brooklyn, N.Y.

The 28-page book features the range of careers offered in engineering highlighting historical milestones and achievements of the various disciplines. The fundamental features of the book strengthen the young readers' desire to become more engaged in math and science subjects, while understanding how they apply to basic engineering principles. As a sponsor of the Adopt-A-School program, Schiavone provides these books at no cost to the schools, which can be adapted to both elementary and middle school curriculum
