RMMI News & Events

Words: Ann WolterThe beginning of 2006 has been marked by record-breaking attendance at the Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute's (RMMI) free, monthly lunchtime seminars. In January, 55 architects, engineers and masons attended a presentation on the IBC and MSJC codes, and in February, 70 people attended a 90-minute presentation on "Detailing with Stone Veneer." The "Lunch 'n Learn" presentations are offered the second Wednesday of every month, and topics are announced on the RMMI website.

The RMMI membership is enjoying monthly networking evenings, ranging from an evening out at a restaurant to a meet-and-greet in the office. Plans are also underway for the annual golf tournament, which will be held in late May, and for a clay sporting event in August.

The annual RMMI membership meeting and summer retreat is scheduled for August 10-12 at Mountain Thunder Lodge in Breckenridge. The three-day event is open to all members, prospective members and affiliated association members. In addition to a motivational speaker and annual meeting, the family-friendly summer mountain getaway offers golf, dining and relaxation in one of Colorado's most beautiful, 9,600-foot elevation towns.

Despite all the fun, RMMI's focus is still on promoting the use and understanding of masonry products and professionals in all construction throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Staff and the 2006 board of directors are diligently attending to the Work Safe and mason certification programs, and expanding the educational opportunities in the apprentice training program.
