RMMI has elected its Board of Directors for 2007.

The Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute (RMMI) has elected its Board of Directors for 2007.

The executive board consists of Don Sackett, president, Acme Brick Company; Wayne Grosvenor, past president, Grosvenor Masonry Inc.; Erik Absalon, president-elect, Basalite Concrete Products; and Gary Feiner, secretary-treasurer, TXI.

Board members at-large include: Paul Miller, HRH of Colorado; Tom Murray, Lakewood Brick; Bruce Otten, Best Block Company; Michael Schuller, Atkinson Noland & Associates; Dave Eatherton, Eatherton Masonry; and David Minor, U.S. Mix.

Also, RMMI is partnering with Adams County School District 50, Adams 12 Five Star Schools and Front Range Community College to increase student graduation rates. Beginning in Fall 2007, RMMI is sponsoring apprentice training programs, at both the high school and college level, for individuals interested in the masonry arts. The new programs in Adams County are part of a 10-year plan to develop the masonry workforce through similar apprentice training programs across Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

“Right now is a perfect time for us to grow our workforce while assisting school districts in increasing their graduation rates,” said Larissa LaBrant, RMMI executive director.

Last but not least, RMMI is proud to announce that its Technical Director, Diane Travis, has earned LEED accredited professional certification.Travis passed the LEED examination on the first attempt, putting her in an elite class of testers nationwide who pass on the first try.

Travis is a nationally known masonry industry advisor, troubleshooter and lecturer. In addition to fielding approximately 600 technical calls each year from design professionals and contractors, Travis conducts RMMI’s outreach services,including: masonry design presentations to architects; informal job site consultations; reviews of conceptual and detail drawings; and development of periodic literature and case studies.

Travis received her master’s in architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985. In 1990, she became a registered architect in Illinois. Prior to joining RMMI, Travis was a project designer with Denver’s Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall. Before that, she spent five years with the local firm of Klipp Colussy Jenks DuBois as a job captain on such notable masonry projects as the Denver Central Library.

The RMMI is a consortium of more than 100 companies throughout the states of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. The organization includes brick and concrete masonry manufacturers, stone producers, mason contractors, suppliers and associates. RMMI’s mission is to increase the use and understanding of masonry products and systems throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
