CEMEX USA is pleased to announce that its cement manufacturing plant in Lyons, CO was recently recognized by three organizations for its commitment to environmental excellence and for promoting a sustainable environment. Through the introduction of multi-level operational changes five years ago, the CEMEX Lyons plant has not only achieved consistent, full environmental compliance, but has also further enhanced its sustainability efforts and reduced its environmental impact.

CEMEX is the recipient of the 2011 National Environmental Excellence Award in the Environmental Management Category sponsored by the National Association of Environmental Professionals. The award was given in recognition of CEMEX’s innovative approach to energy efficiency, emissions reductions, sustainable development, and biodiversity.

The Lyons plant also received the 2011 Land Stewardship Award sponsored by the Portland Cement Association and Cement Americas magazine. This award recognizes a cement plant’s efforts to protect and enhance the surrounding land. CEMEX holistically implemented a multi-faceted land stewardship program at its Lyons facility that includes planting and managing native plant communities, and targeted goat grazing to control invasive weeds. The Lyons facility also partners with the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center by providing a release site for displaced and rehabilitated wildlife.

CEMEX was the recipient of the 2011 Beyond the Limits Award in the Commercial Category sponsored by the Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association (REA). Through this award, the REA recognized CEMEX’s energy efficiency efforts as well as the company’s participation in the Poudre Valley REA Commercial Auditing Program.
