KWIK-MIX HI-LIFTERS
A few miles west of the high gray walls and steel that make up Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun, a medium security correctional institution is under construction. This institution is being built on the northern shore of Fox Lake on what was formerly Waupon State Prison farm land. The new institution will resemble a prison in outward appearance only.

Unusual aspects of architecture not commonly found in system buildings are being incorporated into all of the buildings which will make up the compound. Vertical-soncrete walls, for instance, are being poured with a gradient which lets the aggregate come through resulting in a rustic appearance. None of the inmates, generally speaking, will be behind bars: a maze of clay constructed just outside windows will serve the same purpose without presenting a prison-like appearance.

The first portion of the overall project, involving seven buildings now under construction is being handled by J. P. Cullen & Sons, Janesville, Wis. These structures include a kitchen-warehouse, administration building, service building, Chapel and three housing buildings. Three more housing buildings are to be added to eventually accommodate a total of 576 inmates. Total cost of the project will be $10,000,000.

Cullen started in July of 1959, setting up a batching plant. Hampered progress. The firm's two Kwik-Mix Hi-Lifters were a big help during those early weeks. They Red materials, forms, and concrete, and were especially valuable as towing tractors to haul out concrete trucks that had sunk into the muck and mire. With the Hi-Lifter's high tractive capabilities (four wheel drive, large diameter tires, power transfer differential, etc.), extracting bogged down vehicles was a simple matter.

A year later, in the summer of 1961, building construction is well underway and the two Hi-Lifters on the job continue to perform exceptionally well. Both are equipped with a pallet fork attachment which permits placing brick and mortar to masons working on the third story level.

The two machines lift and carry steel forms and planking for scaffolding. With standard forks on the machine below the pallet forks, a time-saving method of handling mortar troughs is used. The Hi-Lifters carry an empty to the mixer on the lower forks. They pick up a full trough with the extended pallet forks, lift the load clear, then pull in and deposit the empty which they carry on the lower forks.

In addition to the above mentioned chores, the Hi-Lifters are used to move water tanks around the job from one location to another. The firm is mighty pleased with the over-all versatility its Hi-Lifters have provided on this job.

CHAMPION'S NEW JUMBO HOIST
Jumbo Hoist is a star performer the first portable construction hoist capable of handling 3,000 lbs. of concrete or other building materials such as brick, mortar, etc. Also, the Jumbo is the only portable hoist with a completely automatic, hydraulic powered system. Hydraulic erection from the horizontal or towing position takes one minute and one man does it by merely operating a hydraulic lever. Jumbo is so soundly engineered it is the most towable, safest and the cheapest-to-run hoist ever made.

Other features are: (1) Platform automatically stops at any preset level (setting takes only a few seconds); (2) Broken-cable safety device which locks platform to
