# ELECTRIC HAMMER

Skil Corporation expects to increase its sales lead in the portable electric hammer market (its market is now over 50%, says the Chicago power tool firm) through the introduction of a compact, 7 Ib. version of its present Roto- Hammers. Because of its small size and light weight, the new Model 706 is more easily used for making 11/64 in. to 5/8 in. masonry holes particularly where work is being done on ladders, scaffolds, and tight areas where the larger units become impractical. Thus, the tool will open up a new and expanded market for electrical hammers, Skil notes.

The company is also introducing the new tool in a double-insulated version (Model 1706), with an eye on the rapidly growing European power tool market where such insulation is standard. However, Harry Bullock, Skil's sales vice president, thinks American contractors will like the double-insulated model well enough to make it account for 25% of the firm's total production of small hammers. "This innovation," he says, "gives contractors real convenience by providing the protection of a 3-wire grounding where use of a grounding wire would be difficult or becomes a problem." The unit is believed to be the first heavy-duty double- insulated, portable power tool to be produced in this country for the American market.

Skil is also offering four separate types of percussion-rotary bits for making holes in masonry. They include one-piece Percussion Carbide Bits for making 3/8 in. to 5/8 in. diameter holes, "S" Taper Percussion Carbide Bits for 3/16 in. to 3/8 in. diameter holes, "S" Taper Steel Bits for drilling holes as small as 11/64 in. diameter through wood, carpeting, or metal into masonry, and Flat Tip Bits for drilling flat-bottom holes for secure setting of anchors and fasteners.

# MOTO-BUG

The W-10 Walking Moto-Bug, a new material handling unit available with a 10-cu. ft. capacity and 1,500 lb. capacity platform, has been developed by the Kwik- Mix Company of Port Washington, Wisconsin, a division of the Koehring Company of Milwaukee.

Designed for maximum efficiency and ease of handling, the steering mechanism and operator controls on the W-10 are compactly grouped so as not to interfere with the operator's vision on dumping or loading operations. Weight distribution has been engineered to provide easy operation on rough ground conditions, runways and ramps. 43-1/4 inches high, 30 inches wide, and 67-3/4 inches long overall, the W-10 is highly maneuverable. The turning radius is only 50-1/4 inches.

A single, easy-to-reach lever located on the inside of the operator's hand handle gives instant stop and control while standing still and reduces the possibility of accidentally throwing the machine into gear. The hand throttle has fingertip action and is conveniently located on the operator's steering bar. Equal speeds of travel are possible in forward or reverse. Gradability is 20 per cent.

Power is by a Kohler K141 single cylinder air- cooled 5.6 HP gasoline engine, or a Wisconsin Model S-7 single cylinder air-cooled 6.7 HP gasoline engine. A rechet rewind starter is optional with either engine.

For full information on the W-10 Walking Moto-Bug or other Kwik-Mix material handling equipment, write to: Kwik-Mix Company, 235 West Grand Avenue, Port Washington, Wisconsin.

# GLASS BLOCK CATAR

In response to architects and builders' needs for a neutral color in glass block, Owens-Illinois Company developed a new color and a new shape which are featured on the cover of its latest glass block catalog.

The color, called Rolay Gray, substantially reduces sun brightness, achieving the lowest brightness level ever produced in block glass. Available in 12 inches, distributing, clear-vision Vista and Random patterns, Rolay Gray extends the range of color selection for achitectural design needs.

The new color was also used in the introduction of contour block. The contour block, called Crescent, is the first in a series of new glass blocks to be developed by 0-1. The sloping, concave shape of the face of the block provides an everchanging pattern of light. Any side of the 12-
