Insurance For Contractors

(continued from page 9)

To provide a degree of protection, the existence of the same Workmen's Compensation, Comprehensive General Liability and Comprehensive Automobile Liability Policy forms would be verified by certificates issued at your request. I should allow for at least ten days advance written notice of any cancellation or material change affecting coverage. Some mention should be made of Independent Contractors Protective Liability Coverage; and, where pertinent, Products Completed Operations Liability Coverage.

Where you require a Hold Harmless Agreement from a subcontractor or anyone else, proof of insurance for that contract should be supplied by certificate. Mere mention of a Comprehensive Policy form is not sufficient, since there is nothing automatic about the Contractual Coverage provided by most such policies. Where any doubt exists about the matter, your insurance representative should be consulted and the certificates sent on to him for examination and comment.

Part IX Insurance For Contractors

The August issue of masonry will carry the concluding section. Those who would like to have this valuable memory in booklet form can purchase it from MCAA for $1. Money must accompany all orders.

Custom Designed Brick in New York Middle-Income Cooperative Apartments

Final plans will soon be complete for a high-low cooperative apartment complex. This middle-income cooperative will be located on 138th Street and 5th Avenue, New York City, and will be known as Riverbend Apartments. When complete, this complex will have cost $14,000,000 and will cover an area of 150,000 square feet. It will consist of five buildings joined by a common raised plaza. The plaza also connects two underground parking garages that will be capable of holding up to 280 cars.

The five buildings are to be of different heights, three of the structures will be eight, nine and eleven stories high and will comprise 200 duplex apartments. The two towers, sixteen and nineteen stories, will house 424 conventional apartments. These buildings will blend a unique and different kind of brick with large windows and aluminum spandrels. The concrete floors of the building also will be carried out beyond their support columns to become a visible band at each floor level.

The custom designed brick will be unique in that it will be larger than any other brick used in construction today. Its dimensions are to be six inches long by eight inches high and four inches wide. A spokesman for the firm of Davis Brody and Associates, architects for the Riverbend complex and designers of the brick said this was another example of brick's versatility and economy.
