Insurance for Contractors
(continued from page 21)
(2) while towed by or carried on an automobile solely for purposes of transportation, or while being operated sole for locomotion, BUT NOT OTHERWISE:
(a) non-crawler type power cranes or shovels
(b) non-crawler type ditch or trench diggers
(c) air compressing, building or vacuum cleaning, spraying or welding equipment
(d) well digging machinery
Such equipment when used in other ways is, therefore, excluded from the Automobile Policy, but covered without gap under the insured's Comprehensive General Liability Policy. Deciding where to draw the line is often difficult; to eliminate possible disagreement between Automobile and General Liability carriers at the time of loss, both coverages should be written together wherever possible and at identical limits of liability. In that case, any question of which policy applies is purely academic and of no concern to the insured.
C-Contractual Liability
Such agreements are normally covered under the General Liability Policy's Contractual division, even though concerning automobile exposures.
D-Employee Injuries
Similar to the General Liability exclusion.
E-"Care, Custody or Control"
The policy excludes damage to property owned o transported by the insured, or property rented to or in charge of the insured (other than a residence or private garage damaged by a private passenger automobil covered by the policy).
F-War Risks
Similar to the General Liability exclusion.
POLICY EXTENSIONS
A- Occurrence Bodily Injury
Widely available for an additional premium equal to 1% of the Bodily Injury premium developed by the policy, subject to a minimum annual charge of $5. Recommended.
B-Occurrence Property Damage
Similarly available but usually less of a problem. Premium charge approximately the same as indicated above.
C-Medical Payments Coverage
Available by endorsement to cover medical bills incurred by occupants of the insured automobile injured as a result of accident. Not applicable to employee (continued on page 26)
