Chicago Training Program
CHICAGO, ILL. Under the Bricklayers Local No. 21 of Illinois Apprenticeship and Training Program, young men in the Chicago area are being trained to meet the demand for increased manpower. Starting recently, this Committee aggressively pursued a course which would most directly fit into the pattern of the community yet providing, at the earliest possible date, apprentices to supply the masonry industry.

The pre-apprentice course is now approaching its third enrollment period and the results to date have been excellent. With over 80% completion record, the program is setting the groundwork for a firm apprentice program.

The Committee was fortunate in finding a factory structure on the near north side of Chicago where all the facilities were readily available, and the program could be put into operation immediately. Starting with a class of 19, Head Instructor John Kropaæk, instituted a fundamental training period which equipped each of the trainees with the rudiments of the trade and gave them the understanding and knowledge of the craft.

Members of the Joint Committee are-Union Trustees-Edward T. Joyce, Nicholas M. Popovic, and Charles F. Roche. Employer Trustees Harold W. Peterson, Donald J. Dymond, and M. A. Lombard, with Frank Jordan, Apprentice Training Coordinator. MASONRY September, 1966
