PHOENIX, ARIZ. The Bricklaying Joint Apprenticeship Committee consisting of representatives from Bricklayers Local Union No. 3 and the Arizona Masonry Contractors Association, MCAA Chapter, have entered into a contract with the U.S. Dept. of Labor to train additional bricklayer apprentices.

Under the Manpower Development Training Act, allotments have been granted by the Government to train building tradesmen in numerous categories. The local J.A.C. as a very interested and active group, has attempted to further advance the Masonry Industry by staying abreast of current and future needs of the area in manpower.

Twenty trainees are currently enrolled in the program which consists of instruction eight hours a day, five days a week, for six weeks. The young men are taught the use of the tools, different materials, safety and trade application. Following satisfactory completion, the pre-trainees will commence on-the-job training in the regular registered three year apprentice program. The current participants were interviewed and screened by the J.A.C. in accordance with the existing apprenticeship standards.
