NAME STELLE PRESIDENT OF FTI

# New Plant for Porta Costa
On Friday, July 15, Porta Costa Clay Products Company held "opening day" ceremonies at its new plant on Carquinez Straits. Ribbon cutting ceremonies were accomplished by Port Costa's President, Art Culver, with the aid of former Miss California, Wendy Douglas. Nearly 100 invited guests including local public officials, company officers and directors as well as heads of organizations concerned with many phases of the design and building industry.

The welcome address was presented by Mr. Culver. Congratulatory comments were made by Dr. Donald McLaughlin representing the Board of Directors of Homestake Mining Co. and by Mr. J. P. McBrian, Contra Costa County Administrator.

A special feature of opening day was a plant tour of major points of interest. Of the 15 points designated on the tour guide sheet given to each guest, most noting centered around

This huge 425-foot Swindell Dressler Tunnel Kiln takes 42 cars of brick through the "firing" process at one time. This new kiln hes been a major factor in boosting Port Costo's brick production.

the huge new rotary kiln which produces lightweight aggregate, a giant tunnel kiln used to "fire" bricks, a modern brick extrusion line and clusters of king-size storage silos. Size of this equipment alone emphasized the plant's tremendous production facilities. (Continued on page 17)
