Morgen Scaffolding
Morgen Adjustable Scaffolding can now be easily adjusted to any ground or grade condition that will be encountered by the contractor. Morgen Manufacturing Co., Yankton, S. Dak, has announced a screw jack accessory that can be placed into the sleeves at each end of the S-02 tower base. The screw jack will raise the end of the base as much as six inches to compensate for uneven ground conditions. The towers can be placed at different levels to compensate for different grade conditions.
Euco Anti-Freeze
The Euclid Chemical Company of Cleveland, Ohio, formulators of construction specialty chemicals since 1919, wish to remind you that it is now possible to lay masonry safely all winter with Euco Anti-Freeze added directly to the mix.
Euco Anti-Freeze, the original winter additive designed especially for motar, allows masonry to be laid at temperatures as low as 15°F. Euco Anti-Freeze is a liquid material which accelerates the normal setting rate of motar, increases strength development at all ages, and improves workability. Euco Anti-Freeze was developed by The Euclid Chemical Company back in the early 1930's and, since that time, has been used on thousands of jobs throughout the country to enable masonry to continue in winter weather without interruption.
Literature and test data on Euco Anti-Freeze is available and will be sent to you upon request. Please address all inquiries to: The Euclid Chemical Company. 19218 Redwood Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44110,
Winter Protection
Going indoors for the winter is this outside construction job in Faulkner, Md. The general contractor, Piracci Construction Co., was faced with the problem of constructing a third story addition onto the existing two story A.T.&T. building in the winter, without disturbing the workers or the sensitive equipment contained in the lower two floors.
Portions of the roof of the building had to be removed to facilitate construction which would have exposed the employees and the equipment to the winter elements. A.T&T. officials were concerned about the possibility of extremes in the weather causing damage to their electronic equipment.
Winter protection was provided by constructing a falsework of over 800 Universal Unibuilt 6½ ft. panels completely around the building and to a height equal to cover the third flood. The scaffolding around the exposed construction area of the new addition was then covered with 6 mil polyethelene plastic. A temporary roof of wood trusses was built over the building on top of the scafolding to completely enclose the entire working area.
Construction workers were then able to work on the third floor addition without hampering activities of the A.T&T. workers on the first and second floors. During the four months of winter construction, temperatures averaged 60 degrees inside, while at at times, temperatures outside would dip below freezing.
The scaffolding, manufactured by Universal Manufacturing Corp. in Zelienople, Pa., was supplied by the Alexson Equipment Corp., in Baltimore, Maryland.
