# Sealant Backer Rod

Schlegelfoam, a new sealant backer rod with a built-in polyethylene bond-breaker, is now offered by The Schlegel Manufacturing Company, Rochester, New York.

Schlegelfoam Backer Rod is a permanent, pre-formed expansion joint backer made of lightweight, soft-celled, white polyurethane foam, encased in a polyethylene film sheath, designed to fill the joint before the sealant or caulking material is applied. The polyethylene sheath acts as a bond-breaker, thus eliminating material and labor costs. There is no "break-out" if the film is broken or damaged during installation. Highly flexible, Schlegelfoam Backer Rod recovers instantly when stretched and has great tensile strength.

Schlegelfoam Backer Rod is primarily used in vertical joints and elevated horizontal joints, in concrete, brick or metal construction, where it cuts application time up to 50%. It is easily, efficiently applied with a blunt probe or plain-faced roller. It is compatible with any standard sealant, will not soil the sub-structure, or "gas". It is supplied in continuous length on easily handled rolls in 14", 36" and 1½" diameters; in standard 9 ft. lengths in 56", 34 and 1" diameters.

New literature on Schlegelfoam Sealant masonry • October, 1968 Backer Rod, covering material, engineering and application data, is now available from The Schlegel Manufacturing Company, P. O. Box 197, Rochester, New York 14601.
