Safety Program

The "Safety for Supervisors" program sponsored by the Building Trades Employers' Association and Mason Contractors Association of Cleveland, originally conducted in January, had to be repeated in February, March and April due to numerous applications. To simulate problems of the blind, supervisors in safety course wear eye covers in a darkened room and attempt routine actions and simple tasks for 30 minutes. At conclusion of four-session course the "graduates" receive certificates. Training was designed to acquaint supervisors with construction safety methods, laws on safety practices, latest equipment and devices to avoid injuries on the job.
Crossing between intersections was responsible for 40 percent of the pedestrian deaths in 1968, according to annual figures compiled by The Travelers Insurance Companies. More than 9,600 pedestrians were blamed for their own deaths last year.
Automobile accidents in 1968 injured more than 4,400,000 persons on America's highways. Driver error, according to The Travelers Insurance Companies annual statistics, was responsible for more than 80 percent of last year's highway casualties.
