Combining brick and stone, the architects for the Harvey W. Scott Memorial Library project have nestled into the center of this tree-lined campus a library to meet students' needs for quiet atmosphere by the use of private study carrels and tables situated throughout the dignified-looking building.
Standard-size brick of soft red tones is incorporated in the cavity brick panels reaching a height of 25' x 16' x 3" wide. They are joined with a series of window sections and stucco panels. Reinforced concrete columns are located in the center of these sections to support the waffle slab construction reinforced with #11 vertical steel bars to meet the seismic requirements of Zone 2.
The library is named for Harvey Scott, famed early-day editor of the Portland Oregonian. In 1863, Scott was granted the first baccalaureate degree west of the Rocky Mountains. Pacific University is a depository (Continued on page 30)
