Problem-solving Idea
Muddying Up The Problem. When Mequon (Wis.) school authorities completed plans for a five-acre complex of buildings that comprise the new Homestead High School, they left actual construction problems up to the contractors. One of major problems which cropped up was the shuttling around of over 480,000 bricks and 300,000 blocks within the confines of some rather adverse job-site conditions. The area was almost a sea of mud and wet clay. The Nelson Company. Inc. of Wisconsin, with headquarters at Racine, maneuvered right through the problem with a PCM 710 Skytrak, manufactured by the PCM Division of Koehring. Operating at times in axle-deep mud, the Skytrak handled the job in fine shape, at times feeding three sides of the building. Commented one of Nelson's men: "Besides maneuverability, the machine's telescoping boom is a real money and labor saver. At one place we were building a hallway, and we put up two scaffolds parallel to each other. The 710 was able to feed the inside scaffold by reaching over the outside scaffold."
