Greetings from President Young

Welcome to Houston and to the 21st Annual Convention of MCAA. The theme of this year's meeting is to "Make Money Move in '71," and everything has been geared toward this objective.

Two significant accomplishments by our industry last year are heading us in the proper direction. One was the creation of the long-awaited International Masonry Industry Promotion Fund to implement meaningful ways of promoting masonry construction throughout the United States and Canada. The second is the new Recommended Practices and Guide Specifications for Cold Weather Masonry Construction, based on the research and findings of the All-Weather Council, to provide the basis for strong and durable masonry construction despite inclement weather. Both programs are indeed designed to help the Mason Contractor "make his money move."

Another avenue for potential profit is the proper utilization of equipment at the job site. Thanks to our hard-working Convention Chairman G. W. Veasey of Houston and the Material Handling Committee chaired by Allen Knuth of Milwaukee, we will again present the popular Material Handling Jamboree at this year's meeting. An entire morning has been set aside on Tuesday, February 9, to show you the newest developments in the material handling field. Everything from the smallest to the largest machinery presently manufactured will be demonstrated-live and in action-to help the Mason Contractor become more knowledgeable about the equipment available to him.

The slate of speakers, featuring some of the outstanding leaders of our industry, has been selected to reap you the educational benefits of their long and valuable experience. All in all, the Convention Committee has worked diligently to bring to you a program as beneficial and diversified as possible, yet allowing you enough time to tour and enjoy the many wonderful sights of historical Houston.

There is much to be learned from this year's convention and much to be seen in Houston. I sincerely hope you will visit the interesting exhibits at the Trade Show and discuss your needs with the many manufacturers who are supporting the MCAA by displaying their products.

On behalf of MCAA, I wish to thank you for attending this important annual affair, and I hope you will join with us in making 1971 a profitable and significant year for the Masonry Industry.
