Eye-catching Store Front
Tacoma, Washington
Architects: Harris, Reed & Litzenberger, AIA
Mason Contractor: Johnston Construction Co., Inc. (MCAA)
General Contractor: Sproul Construction Co.
One of the exciting uses of masonry to develop business in an otherwise unexciting commerical area was the remodeling of this bicycle shop in Tacoma. Using brick arches and circles, the renovation created this eye-catching store front that is attracting both young and old to the world of cycling.
Employing tones of brown and red brick in a circular-designed single wythe, the architect has captured the spirit of movement that not only stimulates the imagination but increases the business climate. The contractor formed temporary plywood arches and templets to create the circular diameters and contours of rowlok courses. The use of brown mortar and raked joints accented the symbolic bicycle spokes.
Design merit awards were presented to the architectural firm by the Southwest Washington Chapter AIA and the Pierce County MCAA Chapter during a banquet recognizing outstanding and creative uses of masonry in commercial projects.
'72 Witholding Form W-2 Available
The 1972 Form W-2, which was not being issued by the IRS because Congress was considering legislation which would affect the social security information on the form, is now available.
For employees whose employment was terminated during 1972, and whose final wages were paid on or before June 5, 1972, employers must furnish Form W-2 on or before July 5, 1972. For employees whose employment is terminated after June 5, 1972, Form W-2 must be furnished not later than 30 days after final wages are paid. Paper substitutes for Form W-2, provided they conform to the specifications contained in the IRS Code, may be privately printed and used.
The time had come for Dad to explain the facts of life to Junior, but he didn't quite know how to go about it. Then he hit upon the idea of letting their family doctor do it. The doctor did a great job of explaining about the birds and bees, and the life cycles of various animals. On the way home Dad asked, "Well, Son, the doctor covered everything pretty well. Is there anything else you'd like to know?" "Yes, Dad," replied the boy. "Why should I want to know about that stuff? I'm going into the mason contracting business."
