ABOUT OUR COVER
The architects combined the feeling of security and solidarity with excellence in design in creating this Bank of America building at the entrance to San Francisco airport. The dramatic night photo was shot by Marshall L. Schultz. The interior view shown here discloses some of the block wall interior with radiused corners and the expansive tile flooring.
The special color 8x8x16 single-score concrete block units provide the structural walls as well as the exterior's textural interest. These same block units are also in full view in much of the bank's spacious interior. Architects Rockrise, Odermatt, Mountjoy & Amis made particularly good use of 4'8" radiused corners in the building's design. These were constructed with the help of the special radius curved single-score block units manufactured for this job.
Since the bank is located in a high noise area, with aircraft overhead and autos rushing by on the nearby Bayshore Freeway, the insulating value of block construction is of especial importance.
General contractor for the project was Wilco Construction Co. with masonry by James Guinn Masonry (MCAA). Calstone Block Co. manufactured the masonry material.
A teacher wrote this sentence on the board and asked her class to correct it: "Girls is naturally more beautiful than boys." One little boy wrote: "Girls is artificially more beautiful than boys."
A farmer was bragging at the country store. "The man who marries my daughter," he said, "will get a prize." "That's interesting," said one of the local fellows. "What's the prize?"
