"Building Code & Commentary, ACI 318-71 & 318-71C," American Concrete Institute, P.O. Box 4754 Redford Station, Detroit, Mich. 48219.
In the interest of more rapid dissemination of new code developments, the American Concrete Institute has announced a new policy of publishing annual supplements to its Building Code & Commentary.
Formerly a new code was issued at approximately seven-year intervals with no changes between full code editions. Under the new policy, twice each year the ACI Building Code Committee 318 will review and recommend revisions of selected code sections. Publication in supplemental form will follow after appropriate standardization procedures are followed. Planned dates of publication for discussion are January and July.
All newly published ACI standards, including the code supplement, are free to members of the institute on request. Additional copies of the supplement for members and non-members are available at $2 per copy. Orders for the code and/or commentary will include the current supplement at an additional $1 charge.

Like it or not, government has gained permanent influence over matters of safety and health in the work place. "OSHA" is only one of numerous laws and regulations in this field, and the employer must have working awareness of them all if he is to avoid penalties. Not just "on the books," these laws are being enforced with increasing regularity by a growing legion of inspection personnel at all levels of government.
Gidel, an attorney and certified safety professional, summarizes in one compact volume the variety of federal laws that form today's mandate for compliance and illustrates how these laws interrelate and bear on their general purposes. Included are reviews of legislation pertaining to Workmen's Compensation, Construction Safety (CSA), Consumer Product Safety (CPSA), Environmental Protection (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA). New national policies and standards of conduct are seen evolving, along with a "total climate of disapproval" for those who do not conform.
This interesting, easily understood book must be read in order to avoid penalties now and to be ready for more rapid entry to the positive future predicted. It is both a "defense manual" and a blueprint for improvement.
