The Ontario Masons' Relations Council announces its 11th Unit Masonry Architectural Design Awards Competition. This competition is sponsored by the Ontario Provincial Conference of the Bricklayers, Masons, Plasterers International Union; the Ontario Region of the Clay Brick Association of Canada; the Ontario Concrete Block Association; and the Ontario Masonry Contractors Association. The O.M.R.C. Awards Program has been held every year since 1964; though there was a break in 1972 to allow for the Design Canada National Unit Masonry Awards; the O.M.R.C. Awards Program continues during the interim years.
In 1974, 69 buildings were submitted by 44 architectural firms; and the Award of Excellence was won by Sievenpiper, Architect & Planner, for their design of Chester Village, Home for the Elderly, in Toronto, Ont. See the May issue of MASONRY for a full report.
New ACI Publication
"Corrosion of Metal in Concrete," SP-49, is the title of a new publication now available from the American Concrete Institute. This volume is the result of ACI Committee 222's effort to assemble information for a guide on the subject of corrosion.
"Corrosion of Metal in Concrete" reports on corrosion mechanisms, procedures to reduce or prevent corrosion, and research still needed to explain fully the corrosion phenomena. Included are papers on control of steel corrosion in concrete sea structures, effectiveness of concrete cover, and use of epoxy coatings and corrosion inhibitors.
Available from the American Concrete Institute, Box 19150, Detroit, Michigan 48219. 160 pages; 6 x 9-in. format; $8.00 to ACI Members; $11.00 to Non-Members.
