Spectra-Glaze II
The Burns & Russell Co., Baltimore, Md., world-wide licensor of the process, reports an extraordinarily broad utilization of its new Spectra-Glaze II glazed concrete block.

Walls specified for a wide variety of buildings construction projects already under way, include water and sewage plants nationwide, nuclear and fossil fuel power plants, food processing plants in all ranges of the industry, industrial processing and manufacturing plants; in addition to the usual hospitals, veterinary buildings, schools, and other institutional buildings.

One advantage which most users seem to recognize is its built-in coverage of OSHA and USDA requirements regarding safety and sanitary regulations. Also appreciated is its permanent, sanitary, factory finish which never needs refurnishing; can't peel or blister, even under steam cleaning. Spectra-Glaze® II glazed block provides additional economies such as building and finishing in a single operation, load-bearing or partition walls, in both low or high-rise buildings. Thru-wall, load-bearing units eliminate the expense of a back-up wall. Users sum up the advantage in "one trade, faster job, and life-cycle savings".

The licensor invites inquiries regarding specific installations and any questions prospective users may wish answered. Write The Burns & Russell Co., Box 6063(X8), Baltimore, Md. 21231.

New Fork Lift Attachment
Construction Technology, Inc., has introduced its new Model 25 "Fork Lift Attachment" for use on "compact loaders", in response to numerous customer requests. The easy use, simplicity and low cost of the CONTECH "Fork Lift Attachment has made it an appealing product for owners of compact loaders.

The CONTECH Model 25 "Fork Lift Attachment is a smaller version of the "Fork Lift Attachment" which Construction Technology, Inc., introduced over ten years ago. Since that time Construction Technology has developed a full line of "Fork Lift Attachments", for use on backhoes and loaders ranging from the compact loader to the huge carth moving wheel loader and providing carrying capacities from 2500 lbs. up to 16,500 lbs.

The main feature of the "Fork Lift Attachment" is its simplicity of use. Once brackets are welded on to the top lip of the loader bucket, all an operator has to do to convert his loader into a fork lift is to drive up and hook on to the fork lift tines.

Scaffolding By The Mile
Miles of sectional scaffolding from Patent Scaffolding Co. were used in rejuvenating Milwaukee's second tallest building, its venerable city hall. The scaffolding encased the entire building with the exception of the top tower done in 1966.

In restoring the old masterpiece to its early-1800 elegance, general contractor Dhalman Constructor Company did the tuck pointing and stonework; Service Painting Co., the waterproofing, pressure cleaning, and painting: Louis Hoffman Co., the sheet-metal work.

Patent Scaffolding Co. supplied Trouble Saver scaffolding for the 135-foot-high main part; and approximately 16 miles of Tubelox scaffolding for the contoured parts.

The main scaffolding had 20 levels, the bell tower 35. Each level had its own walkways, consisting of planks on side brackets. To compensate for the hollow sidewalks, most of the load-bearing was assigned to 7-inch I-beam fills, and the entire scaffolding was tied to the building with 2-inch steel cables. Sidewalk canopies were supplied by Patent Scaffolding Co. to provide unobstructed passageways for pedestrian traffic during the 22 years of renovations.

New Chemical Light
A unique new device that generates light without heat or flame, yet can illuminate an average room and give sufficient light for reading or working, is now being marketed by Chemical Dynamics, Inc., South Plainfield, New Jersey.

Called CYALUME Chemical Light, the device is made in the form of a compact, completely self-contained plastic tube containing two sealed liquids. The light is activated simply by bending the tube, allowing the chemicals to mix together.

Because CYALUME's yellow-green is so distinctive, and because it is safe in areas which have possibly explosive gases or fumes, it is particularly useful in industrial situations which require extreme safety procedures; e.g., underground coal mining. Its size and shape about that of a cigar-make it convenient to carry and store. It will not corrode or break, and works 10 to 20 times longer than normal flares even under water.

Inquiries should be addressed to: Chemical Dynamics, Inc., P.O. Box 395, South Plainfield, New Jersey 07080.
