Burgee selected the firm of Corbett-Thornberg-Stechow-Jordan, Newark, New Jersey, to prepare drawings for the building. Olaf Stechow, AIA was partner-in-charge.
The award-winning design selected from among 28 entries was a three-story brick and masonry structure built by Jos. L. Muscarelle, Inc.
Its spaces were carefully laid out to fully accommodate the program within budget and space limitations. Laboratories and classrooms were separated to insure that potential noise generated in the labs would not be disruptive to classes.
The main floor contains faculty offices, a conference room for student and faculty meetings and seminars and masonry • July. 1976 a large, attractively appointed tiered lecture hall seating 184 persons. This hall is equipped with audio-visual, closed circuit television and demonstration facilities. Its location, directly off the main lobby with easy access from the main campus level, permits this room to be isolated from the remainder of the building for special functions, if required.
The lower level houses the Muscarelle Center's laboratories and computer facilities. Two teaching/demonstration labs each accommodate 15-20 students with substantial storage, equipment and work areas. One lab is primarily for soil mechanics while the other is for utilities and (Continued on page 26)
