Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia Graduates 32 New Bricklayers

Thirty-two young men were recently honored upon their graduation from the bricklaying course sponsored by the Technical Institute of the Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia in Burnaby.
The graduation ceremonies were topped off by an excellent dinner and evening program given by the Advancement Fund. The 1977 winner of the handsome Masonry Industry Challenge Trophy was Helmut Mann. He also received a check for $100.
Each year the fourth-year students compete for the honor of the best practical project as their final examinations draw near. In the 1977 competition the projects were judged by a panel comprised of M. Godwin. masonry contractor chairman: D. Farish, business agent for Local #1, British Columbia, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen (BAC), and J. Baker, former instructor at the Pacific Vocational Institute.
Doug Gibson, executive director of the Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia, commented: "This noteworthy event demonstrates the importance placed upon all of our bricklayer graduates. We are hopeful in the not too distant future to organize some regional as well as national competition amongst apprentices to indicate our craft is far from extinct. In fact, masonry design and innovation appear to be considerably on the increase."
