Meet MCAA's New...
VICE PRESIDENT
Donald O. Leonard is president of Don Leonard Brick Contracting Co., St. Ann, Mo., a firm established in 1959. Following completion of his schooling in St. Louis, Don spent four years as a bricklayer apprentice and two years in the United States Army.
Don has served as secretary, vice president and president of the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis. He is presently a member of the board of directors of the PRIDE organization of St. Louis and a member of the Arbitration Board of the St. Louis Mason Contractors Association. He also serves as a trustee of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis, the Bricklayers Pension and Welfare Funds of Missouri, the Missouri Apprentice and Training Trust, and the Mason Tenders Vacation and Promotion Program of St. Louis.
With MCAA, Don has served as regional vice president and Missouri state chairman. In committee work, he has served as chairman of the Insurance Committee and as a member of the Apprenticeship Committee.
Don and his wife, Ruth, have four children-Donald J., a member of Don's firm; Kathryn and Christine, both married, and Steven, a high school student.
LOUIS J. HELBERT, JR.
MCAA's newly elected vice president. Louis J. Helbert, Jr. of Fort Collins, Colo., has been a long-standing and dedicated member of the Association, having served as secretary, regional vice president, state chairman, and as a member of many important MCAA committees. He is president of his own mason contracting firm, Helbert Masonry, Inc.
In local and regional activities, Lou has been president, vice president and trustee of the MCAA Colorado Chapter, and president and trustee of the Colorado Masonry Institute. He also has served as a trustee of the Colorado Masonry Guild and advisor on the Apprenticeship Committee.
Lou entered the masonry industry after service in the U.S. Navy. In 1948 he began his bricklaying apprenticeship in Sterling, Colo., and earned his journeyman's card in 1952. Two years later he moved to Englewood, Colo., where he worked as a masonry foreman and superintendent. In 1960, he started his own firm, which presently does masonry work throughout the Rocky Mountain area.
Lou is an avid sportsman, with hunting and fishing his top priorities, especially in the beautiful Wyoming region. In recent years he has added a new dimension, that of flying, and carries a private pilot's license.
