When the city of San Antonio let the $4,750,000 contract to raise the 2,200-ton roof of the Civic Center sports arena to make room for 6,000 more seats, the contractor selected Safway scaffolding and shoring systems for the entire project.
A continuous working platform of standard Safway scaffold consisting of 2,300 frames completely ringed the outside of the arena. On the inside, Safway standard frames were used as work platforms to erect roof column forms.
Since the sports center was used continuously for NBA basketball, hockey and other activities throughout construction, the contractor could erect only one 1000-seat section at a time.
