According to a survey released recently by the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), 1,000 persons in Tennessee working in 130 occupations were rated to determine the ranking of stress-producing jobs. They were listed No. 1 through 130 according to which occupation had the most admissions to mental health centers. Health technicians, waitresses, vocational nurses, quality control inspectors, and musicians had the highest incidence of need for mental health care.
Employees involved in construction and related occupations were listed as follows:
11. Laborers.
25. Roofers.
30. Structural Metal Craftsmen.
50. Painters.
53. Draftsmen.
59. Welders.
61. Engineers.
62. Brick Masons.
65. Electricians.
73. Carpenters.
80. Truck Drivers.
84. Plumbers.
94. Cabinet Makers.
97. Foremen.
103. Cement/Concrete Workers.
111. Forklift Operators.
112. Heavy Equipment Operators.
The occupation that had the least amount of stress? Dyers.

The U.S. Labor Department has published a booklet to aid small businessmen understand and comply with major laws and regulations administered by the department.
The booklet, Major Laws Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor Which Affect Small Business, describes in non-technical language the provisions of laws such as the Comprehensive Employment & Training Act (CETA), Fair Labor Standards Act, Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
The publication may be obtained from the department's regional offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City (Mo.), New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
