Wall Panel Design Graphs
"Design Graphs for Brick/Block Double Skin Panel Walls," by C. Wilby. 132 pp., hardbound; indexed and illustrated. Halsted Press Division, John Wiley & Sons, New York, N.Y., and Toronto, Ont.
The behavior of brick panels has for a long time been viewed as analogous to reinforced concrete panels, but there has been very little guidance on the design of masonry panels in the codes of practice, according to the author. This book discusses previous methods of designing panels and shows how to use the new code of practice for masonry panels.
The most commonly used brickwork/blockwork/mortar types have been considered for analysis, and a digital computer has been used to plot a whole series of graphs covering a complete range of walls for all types of restraint.
The book's five sections cover: panel walls; theory and analysis; design graphs; program information, and references and index.

Apprenticeship
"Apprenticeship Research: Emerging Findings & Future Trends." Edited by Vernon M. Briggs Jr. and Felician F. Foltman. 1981; 224 pages; $7.50; ISBN 0-87546-085-2. There is a $1.50 handling charge on orders not accompanied by full payment; make checks payable to NYSSILR. ILR Publications Division, New York State School of Industrial & Labor Relations, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853.
This volume presents papers delivered at a national conference on Apprenticeship Training held in Washington, D.C. in May, 1980. The aim of the conference, which brought together representatives of management, unions and academia, members of civil rights and women's groups, and state and federal officials, was to encourage broader dissemination of apprenticeship research findings and to identify germane issues in the formulation of public policy.
Researchers reported studies on international trends in apprenticeship, women in apprenticeship programs, public awareness of apprenticeship opportunities, and mechanisms for encouraging initiation of new programs. Many of these studies were supported by the Employment & Training Administration of the U.S. Labor Department.
