$91 Million Center City Office Tower
Shown is an architect's rendering of Eleven Penn Center, a 29-story, $91 million hexagonal-shaped office tower being developed by Radnor Corp., Radnor, Pa., a subsidiary of Sun Co., at the northeast corner of 19th & Market Sts., Philadelphia, Pa. Designed by the Kling Partnership. Philadelphia architects, the 725,000 sq. ft. tower is scheduled for completion in the spring. 1986. The energy-efficient structure will feature a variegated gray Maryland quarry stone and quartz facade. Articulations of the stone and ribbons of gray-tinted insulating windows accentuate the building's vertical lines and reduce its apparent horizontal mass.
'82 Census of Construction Industries
Report Released on Masonry Trades
In a preliminary report on the 1982 census of construction industries, the U.S. Commerce Department's Census Bureau indicates that the establishments with paid employees involving the masonry, stone-setting and other stonework trades accounted for $4,329 million in total business receipts. Of this amount, $4,266 million were receipts for construction work.
These establishments paid out $1.4 billion for materials, components, supplies and fuels, and $.2 billion for construction work subcontracted to others. This industry had total average employment of 120,273 employees with total payroll of $1.6 billion. Value added for 1982 was $2.7 billion.
Establishments classified in this industry census are primarily engaged in masonry work, stone setting and other stonework, including bricklaying contractors, concrete block laying contractors, exterior marble work contractors, tuck pointing contractors, chimney construction contractors, and boiler setting contractors.
For this census, a "construction establishment" was defined as a relatively permanent office or other place of business at which or from which the usual business activities related to construction were conducted.
