HOMEOWNERS PREFER BRICK
Brick amenities are the preferred remodeling or new-home option among homeowners, according to a recent survey conducted by the Brick Institute of America (BIA).
The study, conducted in Tidewater, Virginia, a market representative of U.S. homebuying and homebuilding activity, surveyed 300 homeowners. Assuming equal cost and if given the option, homeowners consistently rated brick as their choice over such other builder-offered options as a concrete patio, bay window, two-car garage, wooden deck, or fully landscaped yard.
In the survey, consumers chose a:
* brick fireplace over a concrete patio 85% to 15%;
* brick fireplace over bay windows 72% to 29%;
* all brick house over a fully landscaped yard 79% to 21%;
* all brick house over a two-car garage 69% to 31%;
* brick skirt or apron over a concrete patio 63% to 36%, and;
* all brick front over a wooden deck 62% to 37%.
Results of the study are part of a national marketing campaign designed to tell consumers "Why It Pays to Buy Brick," the title of BIA's brochure which outlines brick's cost advantages over other non-masonry sidings.
For more details on why it pays to buy brick, contact the Brick Institute of America at 11490 Commerce Park Drive, Reston, Virginia, 22091 or call them at (703) 620-0010.
