1988 Associated Specialty Contractors'
LEGISLATIVE
CONFERENCE
Subcontractors On The Hill:
Making A Difference
J.W. Marriott Hotel
Washington, D.C.
April 24-26, 1988

WHAT IS ASC?
The Associated Specialty Contractors (ASC) is an umbrella organization of eight national associations of construction specialty employer contractors. Established in 1955, ASC works to promote the interests of construction specialty contractors through inter-industry, government, and labor relations. Today, ASC is the voice for 200,000 specialty contracting firms with a combined annual volume of over $100 billion and nearly 1.5 million employees.

Members of ASC include the Mason Contractors Association of America, the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, the National Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors, the National Electrical Contractors Association, the National Insulation Contractors Association, the National Roofing Contractors Association, the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association.

AN EXCITING PROGRAM
The three-day program begins on Sunday with an orientation session- an introduction for newcomers on general lobbying techniques. In the evening, enjoy a festive cocktail party where you will be able to meet and speak with the country's leading specialty contractors.

Monday starts with breakfast and a keynote address by a leading policymaker. It follows with discussions of relevant issues as well as advice on legislative strategy from industry leaders and association staff.

The focus on Tuesday turns to lobbying. You'll spend a full day on the Hill with Senators from your home state. These appointments will be made for you by ASC. Should you desire, ASC will also arrange an individual meeting with the Representative from your home district.

EMPHASIS ON ADVOCACY
During the conference, key Congressional leaders will discuss both existing and prospective legislation of concern to subcontractors. Their insight will help you understand the strategies being used to either push or stall legislative action on key issues. You'll also learn how to be more influential in the halls of Congress.

The most important opportunity the conference affords, however, is a chance for you to speak directly to Congressional leaders about the effect that various legislative proposals will have on your business.

SPOUSE PROGRAM
A special program has been designed for spouses who attend the conference. In addition to admission to all conference food and program functions, spouses who register for the conference may participate in a special luncheon and tour on Monday afternoon. This year's spouse program features a trip to colonial Virginia, including a tour of Alexandria, Mt. Vernon (George Washington's estate), and Woodlawn Plantation.
