Stone Panels III continued to present new concepts and ideas in stone and masonry panels. Dr. John M. Logan, presently Professor of Geophysics and Geology, Texas A & M University, and President of John M. Logan Associates, Inc., reviewed recent installation problems with various types of stone applications. Turner Smith, Consultant, Houston, TX, presented a discussion on Fabrication and Erection and various aspects of field installation. John Tawresey, kpff, presented the views of the structural engineer and his role in the application of thin stone panels on highrise structures. Robert "Buddy" Barnes, Dee Brown Masonry, Dallas, TX, made an excellent presentation on the role of the installer and the various aspects of Stone Panels that greatly affect the contractor in his installation practices.
The official meetings of the 39th Conference got underway at 10:45 A.M. in the Grand Ballroom of the Tropicana Hotel, when President Robert Hatch rapped the gavel and called the meeting to order. The Honor Guard from Nellis Air Force Base presented the colors, which was followed by an invocation by Father Hayes, Guardian Angel Cathedral, Las Vegas.
MCAA President Hatch then presented his State of the Association address, which outlined the work of the MCAA Committees, Officers and Executive Board. In addition, President Hatch discussed some of MCAA's marketing programs and the joint effort with other associations in producing the Masonry Expo '90, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on February 3-5. Full details will be included in future issues of Masonry.
Judi Moreo, one of the leading speakers for the State Department, and President of her own firm, Moreo International, then gave an inspirational speech for the delegates.
President Hatch presented Lead Man Awards to Mario Catani, Tony Luczynski, Tony Zotollo and Dee Brown, following which the entire assembly adjourned to the entranceway of the MCAA/BSI International Expo, where President Hatch proceeded to cut the ribbon which officially marked the opening of this event.
At 1:00 P.M. a buffet lunch was held in the exhibition center, with an overflow crowd taking advantage of this convenient location and the 153 exhibits in the hall.
The exhibition area held the combined exhibits of MCAA and BSI and provided each of the attendees with a broad range of stone, masonry products, continued on page 11
