RTFL Update
A brief review of some of the latest innovations by Rough Terrain ForkLift Manufacturers.
Total Load Control System
A new automatic load leveling control system that features true horizontal and vertical load motions for SKY TRAK variable reach forklifts has been announced by TRAK International, Inc. Designated "TLC" for Total Load Control, the system gives the operator unmatched load moving capabilities. TLC enables him to move loads in a true horizontal or vertical plane at any height within the load chart without moving the machine, regardless of slope or terrain.
TLC's true horizontal movement enables the operator to retract the forks from a pallet or cube of brick without making up or down boom corrections. True vertical movement is an outstanding advantage in tight, confined placements or at maximum reaches where depth perception becomes difficult.
A built-in TLC thumbswitch on the joystick gives the operator optimum load placement for safer, faster control. TLC does it without any reduction in machine load capacities or stability such as those experienced with "transverse" or other load leveling systems.
TRAK International, Inc. is a manufacturer of SKY TRAK rough terrain forklifts and SCAT TRAK skid steer loaders designed for the construction industry.
RTFL Telescoping Boom
Gehl Company's IC Group has introduced the Model 663 rough terrain telescoping boom fork lift. The unit has an operating weight of 20,300 lb. and a maximum lift capacity of 6,000 lb. at 37 ft. 6 in.
The 663 has an overall height of 7 ft. 8 in. when its boom is lowered, so it easily fits under the standard 8-ft. openings found on most jobsites.
In addition, the low profile design of the 663 increases its stability by lowering its center of gravity. The unit is extremely maneuverable and well-suited for a wide variety of building and material handling applications. It features accessible service points for easy maintenance, and a wide selection of attachments.
Maximum reach for the 663 is 23 ft. 4 in., and the lifting capacity is 1,750 lb. at that distance.
The 663 is powered by a four-cylinder naturally aspirated 80 hp Perkins diesel engine, which is mid-mounted for excellent all-around visibility.
Maneuverability is enhanced by 3 modes of steering (2-wheel, 4-wheel and crab) and a 164 in. turning radius. Double cardon axle joints make the tight turning radius possible while transferring less stress to the drive train than other types of axle configurations.
The unit is equipped with the Dynattach coupling system so attachments can be changed quickly without using tools or removing pins.
Cab Controlled Outriggers
Lull Corporation is now offering the option of cab controlled outriggers for their Model 824B telescoping boom forklift. Operated hydraulically, the outriggers can be raised and lowered individually or simultaneously. The newly designed outriggers have a side spread of 15'6" and a forward reach from the front of the tires of 3'2". With the outriggers in the down position, the capacity at 20 feet of forward reach is increased from 2,500 lbs. to 4,500 Ibs.
The Lull Model 824B is an 8,000 lb. capacity telescoping boom forklift that has a lift height of 35 feet and 20 feet of forward reach. Other features include frame leveling, full powershift transmission, 109 HP turbo-charged diesel engine, outboard planetary axles, "on-command" four wheel drive and front axle differential lock.
