Promotion of masonry is an integral part of the Market Development agenda. A full-time masonry specialist, advised by a committee of member company promotion experts focused on masonry, manages programs and activities promoting masonry products and construction. These include promotional and technical publications and audiovisuals, advertising campaigns, trade show exhibits, and educational classes.

PCA staff members on the Masonry Standards Joint Committee helped write the ACI 530 and ACI 530.1 masonry codes and standards. They also advise the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) on masonry matters as members of the Masonry Industry Code Committee. PCA is an active member of such groups as The Masonry Society, the Council for Masonry Research, and the National Codes and Standards Council of the Concrete and Masonry Industries. PCA also co-sponsors the annual Masonry EXPO and the University Professors' Masonry Workshop.

Supporting the market development activities are economic and market research sections, training and educational programs for the cement, concrete, and construction industries, and a host of information resources-publications, newsletters, computer programs, and audiovisual materials.

Research and Technical Services underpin PCA's work in promotion and government affairs with strong research and development programs and technical services to the cement and concrete industries. R&TS spends nearly $2-million yearly on projects to develop new cement-using products and improve existing products and technology.m

Publications from the construction information services, from scholarly manuals to information sheets, fill the concrete information needs of the entire construction industry. Periodicals on different areas of concrete construction cover the latest advances in new products, research, and construction methods.

The masonry industry is served by the newsletter Masonry Today, and Trowel Tips (a periodic publication offering practical technical advice)-in addition to bulletins, information sheets, and research reports on aspects of masonry construction.

Capping the array of information services available to the industry is the PCA Library, repository of the world's most complete collection of 56 MASONRY-JANUARY/FEBRUARY, 1994
