physical change in size. Others might only be relabeled with metric dimensions. Common items to undergo physical changes include sheet goods, such as gypsum board and plywood, which must be made in metric size sheets of 1200 x 2400 mm. Soft conversion of a 4 x 8 ft (1220 x 2440 mm) sheet does not work. However, the thickness of building materials will not change, so that thermal, sound and fire resistance values of these products will remain unchanged. Manufactured masonry products affected by the push to modular metric sizes included clay brick, concrete masonry units, wire joint reinforcing and deformed reinforcing bars. Currently available metric deformed reinforcing bars are specified in ASTM Standard A 615M². The sizes found in this specification are based on rational cross-sectional areas of the bars and are slightly different from U.S.
