MCAA Declares February 27, 1998 Masonry Career Day
February 27, 1998 has been set aside as the second national "Masonry Career Day" and the Mason Contractors Association of America is urging all mason contractors, state and local masonry industry promotion groups, brick and block manufacturers, distributors and industry suppliers to participate.
Last year, the first national "Masonry Career Day" drew national attention to the issue of ongoing recruitment efforts. In response to participation from all over the country, MCAA Executive Director Michael Adelizzi commented, "The participation exceeded any of our expectations."
"Masonry Career Day" is a call for the entire industry to direct its energy toward increasing the awareness of school age students about the rewards of a career in masonry.
"A well trained work force is fundamental to the future of this industry. In order to develop a pool of talent, students must first become aware of the rewards in a masonry career," explained MCAA's Director of Education, Barb Bunzol.
Therefore, February 27, 1998 has been declared the second annual "Masonry Career Day". Industry representatives are being asked to arrange visits to local high schools, either in a formal career day setting, or more informal visits to individual classes on that day. The purpose of these visits is to promote the masonry industry and its associated careers.
"The results of the first Masonry Career Day were outstanding! This year, however, our goal is to have representation in every high school promoting masonry careers," Bunzol said.
There are a variety of ways that representatives can go about arranging "Masonry Career Day" visits. Additionally, there are a variety of presentation methods that can be used, depending on time and space constraints. In order to assist individuals in the planning process, the MCAA has developed a complete "Masonry Career Day information packet. The packet includes all information needed to plan, execute and follow up a successful "Masonry Career Day". Included in this packet, you will find step by step instructions on how to set up "Masonry Career Day", sample press releases, who to contact, what to talk about, promotional flyers, ideas and activities.
Questions about "Masonry Career Day" and/or requests for an information packet can be directed to Barb Bunzol, MCAA Director of Education, at 1-800-536-2225.
