BAC PRESIDENT ADDRESSES MCAA MEETING
Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworker President, John Flynn, attended the MCAA's Masonry Showcase and addressed Mason Contractor Association of America members at their Annual Convention. On Thursday, February 7th, Flynn presented the long-range goals of the International Union to the MCAA. Among the IU's goals was a desire to work more cooperatively with industry groups to work toward more favorable building codes & standards, promotion of an expanded use of masonry by industry customers and a higher standard of training for our industry workforce.
"I was impressed with Mr. Flynn's remarks and candor about working more cooperatively with our Association. He viewed his presence as a chance to promote what is good about the BAC", said MCAA past President Richard M. Johnston. "It was clear to all of our members, both union and non-union, who heard his remarks that John was not his predecessor who viewed the MCAA and contractors as the enemy. I believe John Flynn views us as a vital ally in not only expanding his membership but the greater use of masonry that can benefit us all."
In his introduction of Flynn to the MCAA, Johnston remarked that as an industry we face increased competition from competing systems such as tilt-up. We need to reach out and bring the industry together including the BAC and the International Masonry Institute because we no longer have the luxury to fight each other, the issues are to critical.

SLEDGE HAMMER REPAIR
When a hammer handle breaks on the jobsite, we often weld a large diameter piece of reinforcing steel directly to the hammerhead. The handle will not beak again, and with the irregular ribs on the reinforcing steel, it will stay firm on your hand as well as become a tool a thief will not usually consider.
