Brown, president of Venice-based Brown Insurance Inc., reported that under the new law, contractors can claim similar exemptions as they did before July 2002. But this time they must prove that exempt officers own a stake in the business.

Reported by the Naples Daily News, "Local TV, radio show talks construction," August 8, 2003. A local marketing company is bringing together its construction clients in a weekly TV and radio show that showcases the industry. The program, to be broadcast in "construction-speak," will address issues such as changing local and state codes, environmental issues, local construction projects and career opportunities. "It gives the industry a chance to communicate to each other," said Jack Campbell, president and executive producer of Naples-based Cam-Bel Media Inc., the company he founded in 1981. Campbell said he thought of doing the show when several of his construction clients wanted another advertising outlet. The pre-recorded shows, both called "Talking Construction," will be hosted by Todd Gates, the owner of Gates McVey Builders and immediate past president of the Collier Building Industry Association. Though "Talking Construction" will be geared for those in the industry, Gates said he thinks the public will tune in, too. "(Construction is) the second largest economic engine in Collier County and in Southwest Florida," he said. "It's an important topic to chat about."
