economically disadvantaged youth ages 16-24. It is a federally funded public-private partnership administered by the Department of Labor, where students from a variety of backgrounds have up to two years to earn a GED and get vocational training in everything from sign-making to culinary arts.
"We probably have well over 100 students working on the project at different times and from different trades. They are able to touch it, feel it, and dress according to OSHA rules and wear hard hats. We are measured by the Department of Labor and we have 90% placement in jobs. But, I am not satisfied and am always working to improve it," [Arthur] said.
Michigan
Bay Harbor Resort will be the location of the Michigan Mason Contractors' Association (MMCA) annual fall meeting and board of directors election. Several family activities including golf, horseback riding, a water park adventure, picnic with bonfire on the beach and a banquet are planned at the beautiful resort on the shores of Lake Michigan near Petoskey during the weekend of Sept. 16-18, 2005. New York
Construction on the new 51,000-seat, $800 million New York Yankees stadium is expected to begin in 2006, and should conclude in time for the 2009 season. With a building site in Macombs Dam Park, adjacent to and north of the current field, the stadium is designed to mimic a vintage ballpark, with limestone throughout much of the exterior.
Pennsylvania
Reported by The York Daily Record, "In Our Schools, June 15, 2005: Daniel Quickel of Spring Garden Township won second place in the 2005 Pennsylvania SkillsUSA competition for masonry and was recognized as an outstanding senior at the senior farewell dinner at York County School of Technology.
During his sophomore and junior years, he qualified to compete at the state level in masonry at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA-VICA competition.
A June York County Tech graduate, he has been employed by Caretti, Inc. for his cooperative education experience and has worked on the renovations at William Penn Senior High School. Last winter, he worked on the construction of the Clipper Stadium in Lancaster. He will continue his employment with Caretti after completing classes at the International Masonry Institute in Fort Ritchie, Md.
Texas
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) will be hosting its 50th anniversary celebration and convention in Grapevine, Texas, at the Gaylord Texan Resort, September 7-10.
Grapevine is home to the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall and GrapeFest, "the largest wine festival in the Southwest." This year, NAWIC's celebration will coincide with 19th annual GrapeFest, which begins September 8.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced an abundance of free resources available to assist the nation's 45 million small business and self-employed taxpayers with their tax responsibilities. And, they are all just a mouse-click away.
The small business section of IRS.gov provides a one-stop resource for information on starting and operating a business. On this site, taxpayers can: Learn about employment tax requirements; Make tax payments; Find out how to set up and distribute retirement plans; View a streaming video of a small business tax workshop; and Order free products like a tax calendar or small business resource guide.
"Running a business is a big responsibility, and the IRS wants to help ease the process for this dynamic group of taxpayers," says Kevin M. Brown, Commissioner of the IRS Small Business/Self-Employed Division. "In an effort to save businesses money and reduce their paperwork burden, over the last year, the IRS has implemented a number of initiatives to simplify tax forms"
