Report of the MCAA Technical Committee

Words: Jonathan AndersonThe Technical Committee has been busy with several items this past year.

ASTM

The technical committee continues to meet regularly with our larger ASTM committee work group. This work group has about 35 MCAA members who meet via conference call to discuss ASTM ballots when they come out for vote. This has truly given the MCAA a very strong and noticeable presence on ASTM committees and we have been recognized as such on multiple occasions by ASTM committee chairs looking to move items forward. The MCAA has developed a cohesive and strong voting block.

MSJC

MSJC continues to be busy and we have representation there. We have just put in a minor change which would reference back the new MCAA Wall Bracing document versus the old version.

Wall Bracing Document

The Wall Bracing Document finally finished being revised and the new version went to print in very early January. We are in the process of making the document available in an electronic version as well. We would expect this to happen within the next few months. The new document is printed in color and the graphics are more dynamic. As a result, the fee for the book has gone up to help cover those costs as well as developmental costs. We do expect sales of the document to surge in the few months after convention as we will be able to focus on selling the new document and getting it on the street.

Change to Block

The MCAA has been working with NCMA to make sure that any changes to C-90 are understood by the masonry industry. NCMA will be utilizing time in the Gold Lot this year to discuss and inform contractors about the changes in store for C-90. Look for it on Wednesday, Masonry Madness Day.
