Report of the MCAA Technical Committee

Words: Jonathan Anderson

ASTM

The committee continues to report and have group meetings when ASTM ballots are published. This year the group has taken a look at the ballots before we meet and if the committee chairs and consultants do not identify anything controversial to discuss, the group is advised that the ballot is clear to vote affirmative on. This will likely carry through in 2017.

MACS

The MCAA re-joined MACS in 2016. The MCAA has done it in an effort to help support the industry efforts on the building codes. We would like to see more done to combat the wood industry’s encroachment on markets. In particular we would like to focus more on fires and their impacts to communities and the cities they occur.

TMS

The new committee has been appointed and will begin work on the TMS 402/602, 2022 edition this spring. If anyone has an issue they would like the committee to address, please contact either Jerry Painter or Jon Merk.

Masonry

Our very own Jerry Painter is now doing a monthly feature in Masonry titled “Painter’s Corner”. It will be an opportunity to spotlight technical questions and answers. We look forward to this section being a key to our continued development of the technical side of MCAA.

MCAA is also looking for additional volunteers to serve on committees at ASTM and TMS. If interested, please contact either Jerry Painter or Jon Merk.
